Design Week Lagos 2025 has once again transformed the Nigerian city into a vibrant hub for African creativity, proving it is far more than a festival. This year’s edition highlighted a powerful trend of narrative-driven design, where each piece tells a unique cultural story. From Tomike Layi-Babatunde’s acorn-inspired Ike Stools to Chibuzo Emordi’s memory-evoking “Akuko” book holder, each work seamlessly blends artisanal craft with profound personal ethos. The event also celebrated cross-disciplinary collaboration, featuring photographers and fashion designers translating their vision into functional objects. These innovative creations, which included everything from Ezekiel Osunala’s Eyo Masquerade lamp to Abduljaleel Sodangi’s “Beacon of Thoughts” table, demonstrate that contemporary African design is not only pushing boundaries but also forging a powerful and distinct language of its own.
