As peace efforts in Ukraine and Gaza falter, the Trump administration is turning its focus to Sudan, hosting a summit with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates in Washington. The talks aim to address the brutal conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the rebel group Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has killed tens of thousands of people and displaced millions. However, the exclusion of SAF representatives and Trump’s unpredictable diplomatic approach have raised concerns. Analysts also warn that the RSF’s declaration of a parallel government risks further fracturing the country. Critics fear the summit, lacking expert insight and grassroots inclusion, could cement a flawed power-sharing deal. Still, the effort marks Trump’s first Sudan-focused mediation and signals renewed US interest in ending the conflict.
