Archiving Identity: How Baoulecore Keeps Ivorian Culture Alive

3

Baoulecore, tucked near Cocovico market in Abidjan, is more than a record store—it is a living archive of Ivorian culture and memory. Founded in 2023 by collector Cédric Kouamé, the space hosts vinyl, cassettes, photographs, zines, and rare books, each of which is a tangible piece of Ivorian heritage. The store, which began as Kouamé’s personal obsession, has evolved into a cultural hub where DJs, artists, and curious visitors explore history through tactile artifacts. Named for the Baoulé people, the space honors stories of sacrifice and rebirth by merging community, art, and archival preservation. From hand-bound zines to curated furniture and collaborative projects, Baoulecore revives forgotten narratives, making history tangible while building a vibrant platform for dialogue, creativity, and connection across generations.
