Zambia’s national power utility, ZESCO, has struck a $300 million joint venture with Anzana Electric Group to bring electricity to nearly two million people along the vital Lobito Corridor by 2030. This strategic initiative, supported by private US investors and the UK government, will blend commercial and concessional funding to upgrade and expand Zambia’s electricity grid. The project will focus on new run-of-river hydropower generation and distribution networks, particularly in rural areas, to support households, businesses, and industrial activity. The partnership’s first project, launching in 2026, will deliver 40,000 new connections and add eight megawatts of electricity in the North-Western Province. This effort is a key step in transforming the Lobito Corridor—a major US and EU-backed trade route—into a fully integrated economic hub that connects Central Africa’s critical minerals to global markets.
