Côte d’Ivoire bets on oil and gas for growth

7

Côte d’Ivoire expects its economic growth to accelerate over the next five years as rising oil and gas production begins to reshape the country’s outlook. Planning Minister Kaba Niale says output could reach at least 200,000 barrels per day by 2027 or 2028, a sharp jump from the 44,000 barrels pumped in 2024. This momentum follows a decade of successful efforts to attract major global players such as Eni, Vaalco Energy, and Petrobras through more collaborative government-private sector policies. Officials believe this shift will help Côte d’Ivoire reach its goal of 7.2% growth by 2030 and move the economy toward upper-middle-income status. Longer term, the country aims to rank among Africa’s top oil producers by 2035.
