Zambia’s mega-refinery project gets green light

8

Zambia’s energy ambitions have taken a major leap forward as authorities issue an investment license for a $1.1 billion oil refinery and integrated energy complex in Ndola. The move allows the China Zambia Petrochemical Corporation—formed by the IDC and Fujian Xiang Xin Corporation—to shift from planning to full implementation, with groundbreaking expected within weeks. Officials say the project will boost energy security, cut fuel imports, and accelerate industrialization. Once operational in 2026, the refinery will process three million metric tons of crude oil annually, meeting national demand and creating strong export potential. With thousands of jobs and new downstream industries on the horizon, the initiative marks a transformative moment for Zambia’s economic future.
