Senegal Secures Mercedes-Benz Plant in Major Boost to West African Industry

6

Senegal is set to become Mercedes-Benz’s newest automotive hub in West Africa, with plans to launch a truck assembly plant by late 2025. The project, a partnership between the Senegalese government, Mercedes-Benz, and Global Truck Systems (GTS), will initially produce military vehicles for Senegal before expanding to civilian and commercial trucks. The deal marks a milestone in Senegal’s industrialization push, promising thousands of jobs and cutting reliance on imports. Under the agreement, Mercedes-Benz will supply Completely Knocked Down kits for local assembly, reinforcing its African expansion strategy, which is already strong in North and Southern Africa. With Dakar’s strategic location in the region, the plant aims to boost regional trade, skills development, and supply chain growth, positioning Senegal as a key player in Africa’s booming automotive sector.
