Nigeria’s opposition has united to form a new coalition, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. Led by prominent figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former governors Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, the coalition claims it’s united by Nigeria’s worsening economy, hunger, and insecurity. Its leaders also insist they’re “fighting for the soul of the country,” defending its democracy, and ending its citizens’ suffering. However, political analysts caution that today’s fragmented opposition lacks the cohesion and strategy that brought Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress to power in 2015. With economic reforms biting and frustrations rising, the ADA may gain momentum—but turning that energy into an electoral victory is still an uphill battle.
