Meta, in collaboration with a global consortium of telecom operators, has completed the 2Africa subsea cable system, set to revolutionize internet access for more than 3 billion people, including Africa’s 1.4 billion population. Stretching across three continents and 33 countries, 2Africa is the world’s longest open-access subsea cable and the first to link East and West Africa in a continuous loop, boosting connectivity between Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe. The system delivers more subsea capacity than all existing African subsea cables combined, promising faster, more reliable internet for consumers, businesses, and public institutions. 2Africa will also enable next-generation cloud and AI services, underscoring Meta’s commitment to Africa’s digital transformation and cross-border economic growth.
